Best Free Apps for Athletes

Smart phones have become a part of our daily lives. While they are a useful tool for communicating and gathering information, they can also be a huge distraction. Aside from social media, games and other apps, we gathered a few of our favorite training apps that we use to measure, assess and keep tabs on our athletes. All of these apps are free and most are available for iphone or android platforms. Plus, all of these apps are free...Enjoy!!

Instant Heart Rate

Measuring your heart rate can quickly tell you about someone's cardiovascular efficiency and health. The two main ways we use this app is to measure resting heart rate in the morning and to measure recovery from tough sessions. No straps or extra equipment needed for this one, just place your finger over the light on your phone and it measures your heart rate. Simple!

My Fitness Pal

We like this app mainly because of the food log feature. It does a lot more, but we've found that having people log their food really helps make them aware of their habits and we can go back to see why they gained or lost weight. Great metric with easy sharing features.
